Poem 351: Dark Spaces

I've always been afraid of dark places
unseen faces, things I've never done.
I jump in fright because of thoughts I worry about
not because of what goes on.
Walking through this dark tunnel 
I don't think about the likely things that could scare me, 
but the things I know, deep down inside, that probably won't.
Then I'm caught off guard by those likely things
that weren't scary with lights on.
